Sometimes island resort getaways are best enjoyed alone, or just with your loved ones. Maybe you are stressed out at work and deserves a vacation away from the responsibilities of life. Declining tourism rates due to the economy is causing hotels, resorts, spas, and cruises to drop their rates to rock-bottom levels to stay competitive. Come over to the Caribbean between the summer and winter seasons to snag the best deals without emptying your wallet.

Those looking for that romantic sense of tranquility can find it at Aruba in the Bucuti Beach Resort. The locale has been dedicated to eco-friendliness for years, earning the attention of green conscious supporters worldwide. It has received the Green Glove 21 Certification for the 8th time in a row, and it distinguishes itself from the trend of crowded, high-rise resorts. Rooms are restricted to couples-only, but they start at $250, based upon a double-vacancy rate until December 22nd.

Visitors hunting for that adventurous sensation can find it in the rainforest and volcanic terrain of St. Lucia. There are 12 miles of private bicycle trails at the Anse Chastanet Resort that lead themselves into the tropical jungles of the Anse Mamin plantation. Along the ride, you will ride across the ruins of a dilapidated French sugar mill dating back to the 18th century. Rooms at the Anse Chastanet begin at $350 a night until December 19th.

The Barbados is the only location in the Caribbean to have its own Zagat Guide reviewed restaurants ranging between serving local favorites to Thai and Japanese cuisine. The TCrane Resort on Barbados is also the oldest operating hotel in the Caribbean, featuring 18th century decorations and art in the halls, with rates for suites starting at $340 a night until November 10th.

Honeymooners can find absolute paradise on both the islands of Curacao and Aruba, where The Renaissance Resort and Casino features the Double Your Paradise wedding package. The package includes a free five-night honeymoon at one of the resorts as long as you book a wedding at another one. It features a private island wedding ceremony on Renaissance Island.

The British Virgin Islands caters towards travelers who need that extra level of privacy from their hectic lifestyles. You can take a private ferry or a helicopter to Peter Island, one of the largest private isles of the Virgin Islands for a quick escape. Private beaches are lined throughout the islands, where you can dive and snorkel undisturbed. The coral reefs at the Big Reef Bay are so shallow, that you can feed the fish directly from the palm of your hand. A couple can spend $775 a night at the Peter Island Resort and Spa for a suite located at the beachfront, including all meals being paid and a spa day pass.

Just so you know that while the United States dollar is the standard currency for the British Virgin Islands, all the islands themselves have their own currency standard. Other currency types include Euros and guilders, depending on the territory. A tip before you go is to make sure you keep your credit cards handy for hotels and restaurants, and dollars for tipping the employees. While dollars are still accepted, the locals usually prefer their native currency. However American dollars comes closest to being the universal monetary standard between the islands. Also some of the power outlets do not use the American standard, so you must pack a transformer and plug adapter for the 220-volt range to protect your 110-volt standard United States electronics.
