Here are the top 3 wildest resort getaways for 2010.
Peru: When you travel to Peru, you are guaranteed a wild adventure. Home of the ancient Inca culture, part of the country is untouched because of its Amazon tropical forests. Based on Wikipedia, Peru’s Andes Mountain is considered to be the world’s longest exposed mountain range. The amazing Amazon River is measured to be the largest river in the world by volume. The ancient Incas built the Machu Picchu atop the Urubamba Valley. It is commonly referred as “The Lost City of the Incas.”
Mongolia: What comes to mind when you think of Mongolia? Horses, open plains, and of course Genghis Khan. It’s as though the wild west of the U.S. had been transferred to Asia. The unique dwellings of Mongolians known as yurts sets them apart from other nomadic people around the world. Every year the Naadam festivals are held in Ulaanbaatar and other parts of Mongolia. The literal translation of Naadam means “the three games of men.” Men get to compete in wrestling, horse racing, and archery. Recently women started competing in archery as well. The importance of the Naadam is comparable to the Super Bowl in the United States. Another very important festival is Tsagaan Sar which is the Mongolian lunar New Year celebration. It is similar to the Chinese New Year but can fall on a different date. Traditional meals are prepared and enjoyed among close family members and friends.
Chile: Also known as the Republic of Chile, this country occupies a narrow coastal land strip from Peru in the North all the way to the southern tip of South America. It is home to the world’s driest desert. Fifty active volcanoes are available for some extreme mountain climbing. You can go from coastal water sports to mountainous snow sport in no time. Home to the Andes Mountains, this place is also an excellent location for skiing and snowboarding. For an adventure traveler going to Chile, its best to pack your surfing and snowboarding gear together on the same trip. You never know what might delight your fancy in this country of natural wonders.
